It is interesting to recognize, how a cat can understand and pay attention to what is being said and how it is being said, in example just the other day I was reading to our cat Mona, from Paulo Coelho’s – The Winner Stands Alone: A Novel, as she was resting and I was watching them. It was one of those rare occasions, those perfect days when all was silent around and just her and I relaxed there enjoying the moment that I decided to read.
To observe how she listened so intently and did not try to run off or go somewhere else instead she chose to sit there and take it all in. It got me to thinking about how smart cat’s truly are, as there mind is like a database always growing always remembering, nearly every experience he/she has had resides there in her mind for the 20 years of her life.

To realize that even a pet, an animal is a sentient being, who is always learning throughout the preferably long years of her life, when well taken care of and in a better situation then some of the others who try to survive outside in the cold, harsh world, the paradise that has been paved, bringing car and people onto what used to be hunting grounds for her ancestors. At least as we people have adapted so has domesticated cats from an ideal hunter in a harsh environment to a pet who loves without condition but still has the ability to be the hunter her ancestors were.
In reading and educating yourself as well as educating your pet you build up a deeper bond then only those times where there is no talk just love, petting and hugging, but why not educate her as well, help your cat understand about the world around her. Since it is usually best to read a book out loud anyhow as often that is how the writer had put it together to hear it out loud is to notice more of what may be off even a little bit.
Similar to how a child – will listen depending on the tone of your voice it does not matter what you are reading, but she is hearing she is analyzing as best as a kitten’s mind can, as the tone was kept balanced she seemed more interested in each passing sentence, and each completed paragraph. It was remarkable to see how she just listened and followed the tone.
